Bokkura (small traditional vessel of Maldives)

Bokkura (small traditional vessel)
Maldives got different variety of sea vessels. Among all the vessels, the Bokkura is the smallest. A Bokkura is a small multi-purpose vessel which is commonly used to travel from shore to anchored Dhoani (fishing vessel) in the lagoon. During the olden days, a Bokkuraa is a compulsory for every Dhoani owner to embark their Dhoani; because, in those days there were no jetties made in local Maldives islands, and the lagoons are too sallow for a Dhoni to bring closer to the sea shore. As a result, Maldivians crafted a small vessel to travel from shore and the Dhoni that is called ‘Bokkura’.
